When to Visit Poland: A Guide to Weather & Climate

Is July and August a good time of year to visit Poland?

Often when planning travel, we choose July and August for our vacation, when the temperature in many European countries is high and the weather is most stable. In Poland, July and August have tended to be very hot in recent years. It is usually sunny and even if clouds appear, they are unlikely to be rainy. There occur, of course, summer storms with lots of rain, but they usually last a short time. The temperature oscillates around 25-35 degrees Celsius during the day (about 80 degrees Farenheit). At night it also gets very warm. It is usually around 15-20 degrees Celsius (about 60 degrees Farenheit), but there are also evenings when the midnight temperature reaches 25 degrees Celsius. It can get very hot in July ang Agust, while the humidity is relatively low, so the heat is not tiring. Temperatures, therefore, are not something that can disrupt your travel plans, but if you don't like crowds, try to choose a different date. Especially if you are set on city sightseeing. The Old Town in Krakow, Warsaw or Gdansk is very, very crowded in the summer. Add to that the high temperatures and you can really get tired of sightseeing. A way out of this situation may be to visit cities early in the morning. However, if you want to get a good night's sleep while on vacation in Poland, we strongly suggest June or September for your trip. During the first 3 weeks of June, children still go to school and a lot of tourist destinations are quiet, while the weather is already very pleasant. Especially the beginning of June is beautiful, as the temperatures are perfect for traveling and enjoying activities such as biking, hiking, climbing in the mountains or kayaking. The beginning of September is also a great time to visit Poland. The weather is still very good, although the day is already a bit shorter and the nights are sometimes cooler. In September all the Polish people are focused on work and school again, and that's when you're most likely to see university students traveling around Poland. So if you have a choice between June, July, August and September, we would recommend the entire month of June as a first choice, then September, and then eventually July and August. It's also worth mentioning that prices are much higher in July and August!

Autumn in Poland? September and October may surprise you!

As we have already mentioned, September is a great time to visit Poland. Cities are much less crowded and sightseeing is very pleasant. Travelling is also convenient due to the temperatures which vary between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius during the day. In the second half of September it gets a little colder, but it is still perfect for active sightseeing. If you are planning to kayak, hike in the mountains or do other active sightseeing in Poland, we definitely recommend the first two weeks of September. October is also a beautiful month to travel around Poland! It's especially worth going to the mountains and hiking in the forests, which sparkle with all sorts of colors! November is often cloudy and rainy, and if that's when you're planning a trip around Poland, it's a good idea to focus on city sightseeing. Accommodation and flight prices are much lower and, of course, there are far fewer tourists. At the beginning of November it can still be relatively warm and nature is still beautiful, but the closer we get to December, the less pleasant it gets. In summary, it is really worth visiting Poland in September and early October if you are interested in spending time in nature, and in November you can comfortably visit cities, museums and monuments. Places worth visiting in early autumn in Poland near Krakow for nature lovers are definitely Ojcowski National Park, Pieniny, Tatra Mountains and Bieszczady Mountains.

Winter in Poland is not just about the Christmas market!

Have you ever considered spending the winter in Poland? Many of us Polish people, who were born in the 80s, 90s or earlier, still remember very cold winters, when temperatures reached -25 degrees Celsius. Times have changed and nowadays the climate is completely different. Describing autumn in Poland, we have reached November, which is often rainy and cloudy. Well, December looks basically the same. It does get colder, but temperatures have very rarely dropped below 0 Celsius in recent years. December is a time of preparation for Christmas. We always associated this period of year with snow and frost, but it is rare to see snow in December, except the high peaks in the Tatra Mountains. It is said that Poland has lost several days of winter and that nowadays winter in Poland usually begins only in January. So if you want to see Poland in winter, it is worth coming in the second half of January or in February. Then you have a much better chance to enjoy the beautiful white winter in the Polish mountains and enjoy attractions such as a horse-drawn sleigh ride, cross-country skiing, animal watching or swimming in icy water!

Spring in Poland? The perfect time to visit Poland!

In our opinion, spring is the best time of the year to visit Poland. March and mid-April are still quite cold and it often rains. Nature is only beginning to wake up. But he second half of April, the whole May and the beginning of June are definitely the best time to visit Poland! Everywhere you look is green. It's a great time for hiking in the mountains (although in May there may still be snow in the high mountains!), biking and sightseeing. This is the low season, so accommodation prices are still low. The weather can be capricious at times, but it doesn't make traveling difficult. This is a time when Polish tourists tend not to travel much, so you may most often run into school groups. In general traveling in Poland in spring is pure pleasure. We recommend booking tickets for May or the first half of June and you are guaranteed good weather, lower prices and travel without crowds!
